The girls and I were tasked with a modelling shoot for some Halloween themed bandanas at work this week, here are the results! They weren't too thrilled about it but I personally think they make fabulous dog-models! Featuring Bella (Jack Russell) and Willow (Lurcher)... This weekend I spent my Saturday baking up some cakes for the gorgeous little Hetty's Christening on Sunday. I used Mary Berry's recipe for the chocolate cake and filled this with raspberry conserve (Sainsbury's Finest) and chocolate buttercream. The second cake was Nigella's coffee and walnut cake... Both seemed to go down quite well with the left overs being donated to my pals in the office!
Was lovely to be baking again as I felt like I hadn't done any baking for ages. The next bake is for late in November for the same little lady but this time for her first birthday. It seems she is very keen on giraffes so something in that neck of the woods is to be baked! I think I am going to have to do some practicing. Just a little post to show you some of the fantastic cakes I saw at The Bride Show at Westpoint in Exeter, Devon today! My favourite has to be the Halloween themed cake by Crafty Cakes in Exeter, how about you? Fabulous - The Great British Bake Off have given us a date that they will be back on our screens!! A little note, they have moved to BBC1 this year, so don't miss a minute hanging round on BBC2! In other Baking News, I have just signed up for my work to participate in the MacMillan Coffee Morning. A great charity to raise money for and it means we can all bake and eat cakes, any excuse hey!
The event takes place on Friday 26 September this year (also my friend, Jen's birthday) and you can find information and sign up for your pack via their website by clicking on the link above. The first blog post and it has nothing to do with my bakes! The bakes of the weekend begin with a masterpiece Baby Shower cake by my friend Jen. I thought Jen had come by this talent recently but she revealed that she did a little cake decorating in her youth! I have yet to have a go at creating people out of fondant so maybe Jen can give me a few classes! On Sunday my friends and I headed to Crediton Wedding Fair to get ideas for my friend's wedding next year. They had some fabulous stalls but the best one by far was held by Vintage Lace Cakes (www.vintagelacecake.co.uk), located in Crediton. Sharn, the lady behind Vintage Lace Cakes, had a sensational collection of cakes on view. They must take hours but obviously are worth the time! My personal favourite was the chalk-board effect cake and I hope to have a go at this one soon. I think it makes for such an unusual wedding cake and would be fantastic for a country theme. It was quite a busy weekend for me this weekend so I haven't been baking myself but I hope to get back at it next weekend, even if it is just a few cupcakes!
